As a mom to 5 children, I like to stay up to date with all the latest trends that teens are experiencing.  Having 3 teens makes it harder to keep up with it all but I try:)

cover-hoban1So, you can imagine when I was given the opportunity to read the book Willow by  Julia Hoban.  This book describes the topic of ‘cutting’ in full detail.  Have you heard of it??  I was introduced to it briefing by my oldest daughter but after a long talk we determined that it was just a way to get attention.  But this book, definitely showed the meaning in a different way.  This teen was inflicting pain upon herself to cover the deeper pain she was experiencing.  Thankfully she meets another teen that discovers her secret and is determined to stop her from destroying her life.

They Grow So Fast!

As I sit here in my cozy bed on a chilly Saturday morning, I realize how quickly my babies grow!  Laying beside me is my youngest who will be 6 years old this year and watch him sleep and yes, even snore.  I can still remember going to the hospital 3 times a day to see him in the NICU, and him weighing only 2 pounds.  He is definitely my ‘miracle baby’ and to think they suggested that awful choice, which of course I was not about to consider!!  He is an amazing little boy and makes me smile and laugh every single day!

Just The Thought….

All the ‘Back to School’ talks and specials I see everywhere has triggered a thought…my oldest is a Senior this year!! Perhaps that is why I have been having difficulties with her, hmmm….

Although she puts on a great act of being tough and strong, I believe deep down she is a frightened child. I know this because when I was a High School Senior, many, many years ago, I felt the same way. My fear of growing up and moving away to college was well justified, but I closed up rather than lashing out like she does. Apparently everyone handles fear differently.
