Teaching Responsibility

280737_chores_2Responsibility is something that is taught and not necessarily inherent. A child learns the meaning of responsibility on a daily basis, but it is up to us as parents and home school parents to teach the meaning and importance of responsibility.

There are many ways to teach responsibility and one natural way is to learn by example. Our children watch our every move and we must be aware of this occurrence. It is not correct to tell a child to ‘do as I say, and not as I do’, for that will just completely confuse the child.

The True Meaning of Team

March 10, 2009 by Dr. Mommy

This past weekend while at one of my dear daughter’s cheer competition, the true meaning of ‘team’ was taught.

Now we all know that a team is composed of several individuals with a like interest, such as baseball, basketball and in our case it was cheerleading.

We always teach the girls that there is no ‘I’ in ‘team’; that if something wrong occurs it is not one person’s fault and same with winning.  They all win as a team and they all lose as a team.

They Grow So Fast!

As I sit here in my cozy bed on a chilly Saturday morning, I realize how quickly my babies grow!  Laying beside me is my youngest who will be 6 years old this year and watch him sleep and yes, even snore.  I can still remember going to the hospital 3 times a day to see him in the NICU, and him weighing only 2 pounds.  He is definitely my ‘miracle baby’ and to think they suggested that awful choice, which of course I was not about to consider!!  He is an amazing little boy and makes me smile and laugh every single day!
