Back 2 School Time
My Chronicles — By Dr. Mommy on August 31, 2009 at 11:17 am
Although we took a ‘break’ they were still learning. My girls love to cook and guess what, cooking involves measuring and that equates to fractions which of course is part of learning math. So in essence they were still learning, but shhh…don’t tell them. We also have game nights and I creatively choose games that require thinking and spelling, another little trick of mine. But, again, shhh, don’t tell the kiddos.
This year we will officially begin schooling on Tuesday, September 1st. My children are very excited and have made their list of school supplies along with backpacks. Yes, they love the backpacks and this year they will actually use them, since they will be participating in Co-op classes as well.
This year will also be the year that I only have 4 children to home school. Last year I had my first graduate so now I only have 4. Some may think that 4 is a lot but I have it down to a system which works well for us. We have many classes scheduled for this year, along with the usual reading, writing, we also have Zoology, World History, American History, Bible Studies, Pre-Calculus, Algebra, Elementary Math, Spanish, Arts/Crafts and Home Economics. Yes, this year will be an exciting year!
Are you homeschooling your children? When did you begin? What courses do you have planned for this year? Would love to read your responses.

This is our 5th year of homeschooling. We have had 3 students since the beginning, although each year feels completely different as the kids learn more and more. We began our year in June (we go year round) and as of this coming Thursday we will be done our first 9 week grading period. Our year is almost 1/4 of the way over already!
Our courses (including co-op):
- English Language Arts (so many areas with that and our base curriculum is supplemented with Composition (see below), Grammar, Spelling, and Handwriting)
- IEW’s Student Writing Intensive
- Music Appreciation (co-op)
- Zoology (water animals – co-op)
- History & Geography (year long unit on the USS Constitution)
- Math
- Bible and Memorization of Verses
- Keeper’s of the Faith Clubs (co-op)
- Electronics lessons with Daddy (he is teaching them beginning electronics and having them build circuits with a Snap Circuit Set; I am learning as much as they are!)
I think that is everything… lol.
Whew! I don’t really have “classes” decided upon to teach other than the obvious basics. But we have lots of science experiments planned, history periods we’re interested in studying, and geography (which I always felt was missed in public school). This is our first full year of homeschooling and I am very optimistic about it.
