One Of My Life Lessons

Do you ask for help? Or perhaps you were taught only to ask for help in emergency situations?
If you are like me, I don’t mind helping others and will do everything in my power to help, but asking for help has been a lesson I have had difficulty with in the past.
Yes, I must admit I am quite stubborn and will attempt projects or issues that may arise on my own and sometimes don’t ask for help until it’s too late. I have learned from those situations and now am not afraid to ask for help.
I noticed that my children were of course learning from me and not asking for help. There are times when we should learn from our mistakes but quite honestly it is less time consuming and less expensive to learn from others mistakes.
That is a mantra in our home and in our business. If we can learn something by asking, then why not? I never wanted to burden anyone with my issues or problems but have learned that in order to learn to help others, I must first ask questions. Since, getting over that tremendous issue, my life has changed.
I no longer, worry about asking questions and also realized that there is nothing wrong with asking questions. There will always be someone available that can help you and know more about a certain subject than you and there is nothing wrong with that. That is just another way to expand our knowledge.
I have taught my children to ask questions and sometimes they will go to an extreme, as children will do..but in the long run it is a lesson well learned.
Remember that it will feel uncomfortable at first to ask questions, but we all must get over those uncomfortable feelings. Many of our great leaders are surrounded by individuals that can help answer their questions and are looked on as a support system.
Do you have a support system in place? Learn to put those feelings of incompetency aside and don’t be afraid to ask for advice. Many are willing to share their experiences and many times that is simply enough. It will not only be rewarding to you but also to the person you have asked.
Develop your support system today. Let go of those fears that have held you back. Open up and take that first step, ask questions, ask for support, not only will you gain knowledge but you will gain friendships that will last a lifetime.
