We are all trying to save our earth as well as saving money, so below are some quick and easy tips to do both.

  • Use cloth kitchen towels – cloth is recyclable and will save you money, but if you need to purchase napkins and paper towels choose the recycled products that are now available.
  • Reuse shopping bags – many are using cloth and reusable bags for groceries, but you can also reuse the plastic shopping bags.  You can reuse as grocery bags or as trash bags at home or if you are handy you can use the plastic bags to make reusable bags.
  • Get a water filter or refill dispenser jugs vs single-serve, single-use plastic bottles.
  • Vacuum your fridge coils – doing this 3 to 4 times a year or more if you have pets will reduce your electric bill
  • Wash clothes in cold water – save roughly 80% of washer energy which is normally used with hot water by washing your clothes in cold water.
  • Shop the bulk bins to save packaging on grains, beans, cereals, pasta and snacks.
  • Make and take your lunch to work and avoid the waste of single-use packaging or take-out containers not to mention saving money as well.
  • Make your own healthier soda – combine 2 parts mineral water to one part real juice, this mixture will not only save you money but will also keep you healthier.
  • Shop the sales on eco-friendly cleaners, recycled paper goods and local, organic and seasonal goods.
