National Day of Prayer
Faithful Chronicles, My Chronicles — By Dr. Mommy on May 7, 2009 at 8:31 amToday, May 7, 2009 is the National Day of Prayer. The day that we as a nation pray together. Considering our nation was founded on Christian principles it makes sense for us as a nation to observe this day with prayer.
But, why wait for one day a year to pray? This is something that I do on a daily basis and have taught my children to do the same.
I grew up in a ‘Christian’ home and notice how I added the quotes. Although my parents meant well they truly did not teach me or my siblings how to pray or when to pray. Sure I attended a catholic school, and had religion classes there but I can’t remember a time that I fell to my knees to praise the Lord.
Actually having a rough childhood, I often found myself questioning the Lord as to why I had to endure such pain. It wasn’t until I took it upon myself to purchase a NIV Bible that I realized the true meaning of pain. What I had endured was nothing compared to what our Savior endured. And He endured that pain and humiliation for us and our sins.
I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and that the Lord has a plan for us all. Which is why I had to have the life that I had or I wouldn’t be here writing this at this moment. I had to learn from those experiences so as to never have my children go through life questioning their existence. I have learned to rely on my faith and the Lord and have taught my children to do the same.
We sit together and read God’s word everyday and apply it to our daily lives and routines. We learn about the many parables that Jesus spoke and what they mean. Those are a bit difficult to decipher but we have fun trying. I have taught them that praying is not difficult, it is simply a conversation with our Heavenly Father. We pray for forgiveness, for thanks and for others.
It is not a simple task and one that we must work on daily. It is one that I will never give up and am proud for the freedoms that we have. I am thankful for my family, friends, and my life. I no longer question the Lord for my existence and simply thank Him for all that He has given me.
Today is the National Day of Prayer. Take time out of your crazy schedule and make time for God. He is always available and simply waiting for you to talk to Him.
Blessings,

I agree with this post. National Day of Prayer is a beautiful thing, especially for the country. This is observed daily in my life.
Thank you so much for this post. I’m sorry to hear about your childhood being robbed from you but isn’t it wonderful that God can restore those years through His healing and power of forgiveness. Did you not have a Bible as a Catholic or just because truly your parents weren’t “practicing”? I think that is very sad. I am thankful we have His Word to confirm or deny what is taught. Most of all to discover the depth of His love can only be received through what He tells us in His Word. That is so amazing, isn’t it? That He would not only do what He did for people like us, but write us a love letter telling us all about it!
Great job in breaking the cycle and teaching your children about prayer. It is the one true resource that will heal our land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
You are always on top of it girl
